Reflection Writing

The project we have undertaken has went through multiple stages so far. Despite the many stages, the initial phase of deciding and agreeing on a topic stuck with me the most. To me, this phase forced us to practice the most interpersonal skills. It was due to the unfamiliarity of new working styles among new workmates, the uncertainty of their social tolerance and the need to promote and share your own ideas that made this phase as it was.

When the team was brain storming ideas for the project, we had knew each other for more than a year but it was the first time working together for a academic project. There was no clear direction of where the discussion was heading. Due to the freshness of the assembled team, no clear leadership was present too as we see each others as equals. We took time to tactfully and politely convey our ideas and stir the discussion in the right direction. However, it was because of these considerations to be polite and tactful that hindered the speed and effectiveness of our discussion.

In the process of pitching our individual ideas to each other, we were careful not to present too aggressively. While wanting our ideas to "sell", we do not want to portray dictatorship. While not being too straight forward, we wanted to convey our ideas as clearly and convincing as possible. The need to balance our pitch caused us to practice careful speaking and interpersonal awareness.

In conclusion, despite the slow approach to the discussion, a fine balance was struck among the team members. This balance may have slowed the process but is seen as a crucial element of working in teams. The balance will help us create better and more productive sessions in the future by lowering the possibility of conflicts.

  1. Thank you, WeiXian for this description . It seems like it is a good response to the last post reflection assignment. It isn't really an interpersonal communication conflict description though, as assigned. Do you understand what I'm pointing out?

    1. Thank you for the respond, I realised I read the wrong brief. I'll be redoing it.
