Reflection

This post is dedicated to the cashier at Republic Polytechnic, South Food Court, drinks store. This plus sized lady has displayed incredible consistency in her customer services. She offers absolutely no smiles, speaks only when its absolutely necessary and communicates via rude body language. I would understand if it happens once in awhile when someone is having a bad day. However, to my horror, she has maintained this incredible level of service 365 days a year. On one perfectly good day, I was feeling overly optimistic about life and attempted to prompt her for a better respond. I tried smiling, greeting her nicely and even initiated a conversation. And you guessed it, she continued to display that unshakeable consistency in her service quality.

The root of this problem or whatever her motivation is, is beyond me. I have spent sleepless nights and some of the lecture time wondering about it but to no avail. Although service was rendered and monetary transactions was done smooth, there was a major interpersonal communication problem. While she was surprisingly effective in conducting the whole service using non-verbal communication, she leaves customers unhappy and even fearful. This may or may not result in a lower rate of patronage.

  1. Dear Wei Xian,

It seems we have all met the same traumas from the particular tyranny of this plus sized lady. However, I would like to give you a word of encouragement and hope you that have what it takes in you to get over this nightmare that haunts you day and night. The only form of advise I have for you would be to steer clear of that catasrophe by possibly patronising another stall or by providing only the minimum signs of verbal communication needed to match her style of barbarism. All in all, you have my deepest condolences from someone who has experienced the same pains as you.

    Cheers,

    Wey Hau

  3. Dear Wei Xian,

We sincerely empathise with you as we have encountered the same situation before.
Seeing how disturbed you are, we would like to provide some advice to you on how you can make the situation better.

    1) Avoid - never go back to that store again.
    2) Compromise - accept her for who she is, as everyone has their own perspective to life and perhaps, she simply do not want any interaction with anyone.

Hope these solutions have addressed your concerns.
Also, you can feel free to rant to us next time if such a thing happens again, we will provide you with a 24/7 listening ear.

    Best Regards,
    Preddy & Ian

    1. Dear Preddy & Ian,

Thank you so much for the solutions. I will definitely avoid patronizing that horror stall. Unfortunately, the stall offers the most attractive pricing for their Teh-O. Therefore I shall practice the second solution kindly proposed by you guys - to accept.

      Thank you once again.

      Regards,

  4. Thanks, WX, for considering a new approach to the situation, though this isn't much more than avoidance (which is still legit).

    Best wishes! Brad
